Peter Fox – cardfactory's Editorial Manager and leader of our Pride group – kicks off Pride Month by choosing his favourite LGBTQ+ cards.
Super Gay & Mega Horny Unicorn Card
"This beauty was one of our earliest same-sex Valentine's cards! Unicorns were super on-trend at the time, so we paired a fabulous rainbow unicorn with a saucy pun – and it was a huge success! This one spread over social media until we had people in the US asking to buy it. Definitely still one of my faves, if you're looking for something cheeky!"
Perfect Human Being Card
"This was from the first Pride range we did, Life Without Labels. As many people will know, the full LGBTQ+ spectrum includes countless different orientations and gender identities – this was an ambitious attempt to include as many as we could in one card. With a remixed rainbow and a strong message of acceptance, I thought the result came out great!"
Jonathan Straight Photographic Card
"It's rare we get the chance to use photographs in our LGBTQ+ ranges, so I was thrilled to work with a local photographer, Jonathan Straight. His pictures, taken of people at Pride events, have a beauty and a gritty realness about them. They really showcase the fabulous queerness and diversity of Pride – so this small range of art cards is definitely up in my list!"
"Hello You" Card
"Part of our newest Pride range, this card is designed for anyone coming out as trans or going through transition. The background is a textured version of the trans Pride flag, paired with a fun greeting – for a person who has finally become who they always were. Simple, but super effective!"
Being Queer is a Riot Card
"I just love this card we did for LGBTQ+ History Month, it's so cool! for anyone who doesn't know, modern Pride events started as a commemoration of the Stonewall Riots in New York in 1969 – when queer people finally rebelled against police brutality. I think it's important to keep a sense of history during Pride – and this super-stylish card does that perfectly!"
Who You Are Is Beautiful & Amazing Card
"And to finish – a gorgeous group of misfits! Many people don't realise that the queer political movement of the 80s included anyone who didn't fit social norms – and to this day, people of colour and those with different abilities are part of the wonderful diversity that we celebrate during Pride! This card shows everyone feeling happy to take up space and celebrate their difference – which is what Pride is all about!"
